Simon Cowell is in the early stages of developing an all-boy band consisting of Americans, reports JustJared.
“Simon is really excited to form a group of guys from America,” a source tells the Web site. “He’s done such a fine job with British boys, so he’s ready to try his hand in America. He’s looking for the right people to team up with and create their sound.”
The X Factor judge’s other bands signed to his Syco label are British group One Direction and the quartet Il Divo.
Sad but true: Simon Cowell was slated to meet with X-Factor honchos on Monday to discuss bringing Whitney Houston on the show as a judge.
“We were ironically going to meet on Monday and of course, one of the names we were going to be talking about in that meeting as a possible mentor on the new series of X Factor was going to be Whitney Houston,” Cowell told CNN’s Piers Morgan Saturday night, just hours after Whitney had died at the Beverly Hilton.
The Hollywood Reporter had reported that Whitney was keen on such a gig, and Cowell echoed that sentiment: “The rumors that had got back to us…and that’s often what happens when people want to be on these shows, somebody tells someone to get the word out, it’s normally a sign that they are interested,” Cowell said.
He added, “Given the choice, I would have liked to have taken her under my wing as well, because she would have been the ultimate, ultimate mentor to any contestant coming on the show.”
It’s official: Steve Jones is leaving his hosting gig X-Factor.
The announcement follows reports that surfaced Monday morning, which quoted Simon Cowell hinting that Jones was out. Cowell told the Daily Mirror, “I don’t think he did a bad job but, like America’s Got Talent, there is a Brit limit on the show.” Jones is from Wales. Cowell is from England.
Jones confirmed the speculation Monday evening, when he tweeted about his impending departure—and that the choice to leave isn’t his: “I wont be hosting next seasons XFactor which is a shame but I cant complain as I’ve had a great time. Good luck to everyone on the show.”
