Aretha Franklin Speaks: I Was Not Banned From Whitney’s Funeral….Plus, Cissy And I Are As Tight Ever!

Aretha Franklin has finally broken her silence about claims she was banned from goddaughter Whitney Houston‘s funeral by the singer’s mother, Cissy Houston.

While Aretha’s rep said the singer was a no-show because of leg spasms, reports claimed Cissy was unhappy with comments Aretha made during a Today show interview last week, during which she said, “I think parents have to really talk to their children before they leave home … (that they) leave home prepared, really. She left home with all the right things.”

But Aretha has slammed those reports, issuing a statement that reads: “Cissy Houston and I have been longtime friends for almost 50 years.  I have four invitations and parking passes that were sent to me for the funeral. Cissy does not need ridiculous speculation and neither do I — particularly at this time.”

“Knowing Cissy as well as I do, I know Whitney left home right and properly. I was generalizing and it was a well-intended statement for any young adult coming into the music industry. I was not speaking of anyone specifically,” she said.

Aretha also paid tribute to Whitney at a concert Saturday night at New York City’s Radio Music Hall.

BREAKING UPDATE: Aretha Franklin Breaks Her Silence: I Was Not Banned From Whitney’s Funeral!

Aretha Franklin said she didn’t attend Whitney Houston‘s funeral because of a leg spasm — but now, new reports suggest that Whitney’s mom, Cissy Houston, disinvited the music legend.

According to reports, Cissy was pissed that Aretha appeared on the Today show and told Al Roker this: “Parents really have to talk to their children before they leave home. They have to make sure when they leave home, they have all the right things. She left home with all the right things, but she just kind of lost her way along the way.”

Aretha’s rep denies the singer was uninvited by Cissy, citing leg cramps. But curiously, Aretha took to the stage the following night at a concert in NYC, and seemed perfectly fine…
UPDATE: GossipDavid.com now hears from another source who swears that “Aretha was suffering exhaustion after her Friday performance and her doctor recommend she stay off her feet for a day.”
